Amateur Radio Emergency Service® of Champaign County, Illinois

 

ARES® is part of the American Radio Relay League (ARRL) field organization. It is composed of licensed amateur radio operators who have registered their equipment and capabilities to volunteer for public service and emergency communications. You do not need to be a member of the ARRL to be a member of ARES® .

ARES
®  is a volunteer radio communications service organized to provide reliable primary or secondary communications links for government agencies and non-profit organizations during emergencies or public service events.

ARES®  of Champaign County is incorporated as a 501c3 organization in the State of Illinois. Our "club" call sign is WA9RES. This call sign is used by our net control stations in both emergency and public service events.

Nets

 

 

Every Tuesday at 2100 CT, on the 444.100 (K9SI) repeater (CTSS 162.2).  This is a directed net.  It opens with a call for any mobile stations, then Champaign County ARES®  members, and then general check-ins.

Membership


Membership is open to anyone in the county that holds a current Amateur Radio license.

Ongoing training is a large part of membership activities.  We follow the ARES®  guidelines.

Monthly Meetings

WA9RES meets the first Wednesday of every month, either on Zoom or in person at the Illinois Fire Service Institute.  Contact the Emergency Coordinator Patrick Twigg at patrick.twigg@gmail.com for instructions.
